A growing HVAC installation company in Sydney contacted me after struggling to gain visibility in local search results. They were offering quality services but weren't appearing for high-intent keywords in their area.

Sydney's HVAC Market Has a Timing Problem

Sydney is Australia's largest city with 5.3 million people. The HVAC market is active year-round but peaks sharply in the Southern Hemisphere summer between December and February. That is the opposite of the Northern Hemisphere timing that most SEO guides are written for.

When I started this campaign in March 2024, the Australian summer had just ended. Most HVAC companies were pulling back marketing spend. That was a mistake. March to October is the ideal time to build rankings that will be consolidated by December when the surge hits.

The Australian citation ecosystem is smaller than the US or UK markets. There are fewer tier-1 directories. But the ones that exist — HiPages, Oneflare, ServiceSeeking — carry significant weight. Quality over quantity matters more in Australia than in larger markets.

Greater Sydney spans over 12,000 square kilometres. A business based in Parramatta does not naturally rank in the Northern Beaches. Suburb pages were not just helpful — they were the entire geographic coverage strategy.
